  2. I live in Los Angeles. Once the Chandler family sold the L.A. Times it went from a liberal-leaning centrist newspaper of national acclaim to solid leftie rag not fit for the bottom of a birdcage. The Wall Street Journal does have very good general news in addition to its business focus, and they do try to keep opinions on the opinion/editorial pages. Only issue with them is the editions keep getting smaller and smaller; you'd think the staff at the WSJ has gotten so small they can sit around a few dinette set tables in a basic small office space. Your initial description of where new reporting has come from is pretty accurate. With regard to ChatGPT and AI taking over news reporting, notice how many spelling and grammatical errors you see in stories these days, even though there are very sophisticated spellcheck and grammar-correcting software packages available.
