I think it'll go the other way. Trump had some good choices who could give him good input (good or bad) to make rational decisions, but Trump was more interested in 'yes men' loyalists who would carry out his desires. He went through a lot of senior staff in 1.0. 2.0 looks to be starting out by picking campaign and MAGA party loyalists from the start, minimal competence in their assigned areas. Its going to be interesting.

I don't know that there's as much hypocrisy as you think there is. The demonization of immigrants is directed at those here illegally and their supporters, most others just want the immigration laws enforced. Heavily subsidized industries, I used to have my hand in the crude oil industry and that is far more under regulatory controls (an expense) than subsidies. The USA is the only significant global player right now, fortunately it's leaders have used that to build good relations around the world. The USA realizes friends don't have to be heavily monitored like China is finding it needs to do with its adversaries.
