  1. The only advantages I know of for sour crude are the ability to use those 'sour' waste products for asphalt and mastic compounds. Think road asphalts (different grades), tars for sealants (roofing tar and patching compounds like the famous 'Henry's'). Another biggie is a compound that when finished looks like tar balls that is good for a fuel, but it's shipped overseas as the pollution level from its combustion is way higher than allowed in the USA. Also additives for synthetic rubber, some others I can't remember.
