  1. The positive here is it may make nefarious dealing harder (money laundering, drug dealing, etc), but considering it'll be under control of the government in FEDNOW it could be easy to screw up. I'd also wonder if this 'new' system that makes things 'simpler and easier' will suddenly require charging a fee to institutional financial users to keep it up. The Fed will justify it as financial institutions were already paying fees for those multiple back-office transfers/transactions, now they just pay one fee to the Fed. And that fee will be passed on to the banking customers. I'd also hate to see paper checks disappear. I do digital and paper bill paying, I do great at keeping the paper bills paid up, the digital ones always have issues (maybe the creditors don't have adequate systems yet?).
