Some are saying that the insurance co should PAY to replace a worn out roof, it does not work that way. Not everyone reads every single post like you do. Insurance is shared risk where losses are shared between members. You can always start your own shared risk pool and see how that goes when you insure neglected properties..

It works like this, people sign up FOR FREE but promise to pay their share when another person suffers a loss. Just think, people don't pay upfront but instantly get coverage. Who is forcing you to buy insurance and why? Vehicle liability insurance is a requirement to drive on public roads however, it is possible to self insure if you show enough assets to cover losses to the party that you have damaged.
