Background checks ( through the federal NICS system ) already exist in every state . There are age restrictions for under 18 owning a hand gun, long guns are generally exempt. The " gun show loophole " that some tout doesn't really exist. While in some states there might not be a explicit legal requirement for private sale background checks, there is a legal requirement that the seller not knowingly sell to a prohibited person. If you were a seller facing arrest for selling to a prohibited person with enhancements if the gun is used in a crime, would you go to a dealer to have a background check performed? @KalynnCoy In addition to what I just posted, it would be a good idea to check gun laws in your state just to get a sense of what they really are. Also, here is an in depth vid on the subject from a very stable , reliable, knowledgeable person, Paul Harrell. It is lengthy because it covers information in detail. It has some demonstrations to show that " scary looking " arms are not any more dangerous than other arms. It also covers the myth that guns are " so much easier to get than in days past " The reality is laws are much stricter than in the 1950's for example.
