The issue is too many sunflowers. Say I wanted to plant corn in a suburban front yard, you OK with that?

@Dpsnadress There are certain standards one must adhere to when living in an area like this. Say you have a neatly kept suburban house for sale and the ones on either side of yours have yards overgrown with " Field Pennycress " . ( look it up ) Ask any real estate agent what that will do to your property value. Also look up the 2 posts from TJ Marx for the history of this guy.

@andrewgoodwill4591 Ever see sun flower seeds sold in a grocery store at a food? Would these come from a farm? Are you saying that I can't have corn in a garden on my property? Regardless, the guy can grow sunflowers as long as there is 50 % grass area. This guy is purposely covering the entire yard to cause a fuss, this story extends beyond the sun flowers. . And, what if I wanted to grow " field Pennycress " in my yard next to you, would you be OK with that?

TJ Marx posted some excellent research in the comment section.

@gigibergen9818 Would you be OK if I covered the lawn in " Field Pennycress " ?

@firstcrust1 Look up what " Field Pennycress " is and get back to me, I doubt you would want to live next to a field of this nor would someone looking at your house if it was for sale. Here I'll do it for you, from the net " The plant bears an unpleasant odor, making it easy to identify. Because of its abominable smell it became widely known as stinkweed "
1
@firstcrust1 So you are telling me that a yard full of stink weed next to a house you were trying to see would not decrease the property value? Would you buy a house next such a property?

If the city lets this go, others with unkempt yards will say " You let him get away with the 50 % minimum lawn requirement, why can't I ? "
1
So if I let the grass grow on my yard that would be OK? Also, I'm betting this guy planted many sun flowers as a way to " get back at the city " for something. Maybe refusal of a permit / tearing down a unpermitted structure perhaps?
