  2. When I lived in downtown Toronto in the 1980s, there were literally 4 people altogether panhandling, and I never saw them sleeping on the street. By mid-1990s, I could no longer count the number of people begging for money in downtown Toronto, where by that point there were minors and older homeless people sleeping rough wherever you looked. Now, there's a tent city in my neighbourhood park in downtown Kitchener. In the meantime, our healthcare system's gone down the drains, and it takes up to a year or more to see a specialist. Our food prices went up by some 20% two winters ago, and by about the same this year, too. I don't know how median-income people are managing, let alone the lower-income demographic. And most of the population is utterly conformist, and/or self-destructively passive about what's happened to this country. Our Deputy Prime Minister is a person who worships a Nazi collaborator, and that's tolerated as perfectly normal. I think I've been in a perpetual state of low-key shock about it all for the past 20 years!

  3.  @chrismcintyre1836  Gandhi actually idealized the Hindu caste system and, incredibly, claimed that it was humane and kind to the lower castes. He blocked Ambedkar at every turn while publicly pretending to being concerned about the plight of the Dalits.
