@GypsyGirl317 You missed the crucial point here. Of course it's possible to learn not one of two but even three or four foreign languages in adolescence/teenage years, BUT ONLY if one had had normal human language development during childhood and as a preteen. This is a well known fact in psycho-linguistics, not open to discussion any more than the Law of Gravity is open for discussion on any supra-atomic level. If you spend 5 years of your childhood deprived of human society and of normal language development, you will never be able to acquire/learn even one human language with anything close to fluency. The very few children unfortunate enough to have been raised in total isolation from others (a form of child abuse) were never able to learn to speak more than one language, and that very badly, too.
That said, this woman believes she was about 4 when she was dropped in the jungle (why anybody would bother abducting a 4-year old only to leave her in the middle of a jungle is a question all by itself) and about 8 when she ended up with a whip-wielding brothel keeper (sounds like a story by Marquis de Sade, doesn't it?). If any of that is true, it would put her back in human society and starting to acquire language all over again as a pre-teen, at roughly the age of 8, a circumstance that would make it just possible for her to acquire a first language (with some difficulty, at first, as she recollects it) to more or less full fluency. Given that, learning a second language as a teen would have been possible.
Btw, I have a degree in linguistics.
