Piketty talks a lot and says pretty much nothing.

I'm surprised Ambassador Freeman didn't even mention Zelensky's astonishing arrogance and rudeness, not to forget the many lies he told, which is what finally set Trump and Vince off. Chas Freeman is usually an excellent analyst, so I can only conclude that he simply dislikes Trump and can't be objective about anything he does.

It's Mearsheimer who calls himself a realist. In reality, he's an ideologue who supports US hegemony.

But that's exactly the issue: Mearsheimer isn't describing the world as it has been throughout the ages. Even cursory knowledge of China's history reveals that China itself is a very clear exception to what Mearsheimer calls "realism". Projecting onto others what we ourselves do is a very sly form of self-deception. It's anything but realism.

This channel deserves a much wider audience!

On your last point: I'm a Christian and I don't automatically trust my fellow Christians to be able or willing to distinguish between the ethical and the unethical parts of the Bible for the simple reason that many Christians still believe in the inerrancy of the Biblical text. Just like Muslims, most of whom would outright reject any independent ethical assessment of the Qur'an, a great many Christians cannot bring themselves to read the Bible critically.

The US has been violating international law and committing war crimes itself for decades.

To say that this has nothing to do with Islam is absurd. Yes, the West is actively supporting the Islamists and the takfiris, but both are the home-grown product of Islam.

Mearsheimer isn't a realist. He merely claims that his views are realistic. In reality, he's an ideologue and an advocate of American hegemony who projects his own internalised American lust for power onto all others. His recent debate with Jeffrey Sacks is well worth watching.

@user-su5mq6ow6o There's that, too. 😉

 @opinion3742 That description applies only to a handful of OT stories and passages. Most of the text is, ethically speaking, appalling, vile.

 @TacticalMayo It's the option most of life takes. Throughout the history of life forms on this planet.

Even Gideon Levy uses weasel words such as "evacuate" to describe the Israeli ambition to ethnically cleanse Gaza.

No, Mearsheimer is not an opportunist. He's an ideologue.

A lot, but not all. China itself is unarguably an outstanding exception to what Mearsheimer claims is inevitably the case. When China was the pre-eminent economic (yes, it's happened before) and naval power in the world, with hundreds of at the time most advanced, best naval vessels, it deliberately destroyed its own navy -- burned all of its ships down -- because it consciously chose not to engage in imperialism. That decision continues to inform China's foreign policy to this day. I respect Mearsheimer for the intellectual and personal courage it took to write a book on how Israel's captured US foreign policy. He was hounded for it and almost lost his job for publishing it. But he's openly an advocate of American hegemony, which he calls "regional" although he knows perfectly well that it aspires to be global: full spectrum dominance over the rest of the world. That's not realism. That's fascism in international relations.

Mearsheimer has expressly stated over and again that it would be good for the US to "contain" China. He actively advocates going to war with China.

 @TacticalMayo Nobody listens to the US any more. China's outproducing the US and the EU combined, while the US and NATO as a whole are losing (have lost) their proxy war in Ukraine.

 @eclark9965 Not a fan of land-grabbers and genociders of any ethnicity. And that very much includes your kind.

Mearsheimer claims that. He doesn't recognize it because it's simply not true, i.e. it's simply NOT the case that China's an imperialist country. As the US unarguably is.
