Properly built and maintained, nuclear plants are extremely safe. France has relied on them for up to 50% of its energy needs for decades and has just scrapped the 50% cap as it starts deploying a new set of nuclear plants. Egypt's also gone nuclear, and the Chinese are currently building 24 new nuclear plants.

The French are set to deploy a whole set of new nuclear plants and have just scrapped the 50% cap they used to have on how much of their power needs can be supplied by nuclear energy plants.

The European anti-nuclear movement of the 1950s-1970s was entirely about the bombs. France has relied for up to 50% of its power needs on nuclear plants for decades now, without a single accident and has just removed that 50% cap as it's about to start deploying many new nuclear plants.

@fred6319 That was 66 years ago. Technology has advanced since then. The French have relied for 50% of their power needs on nuclear energy for decades without a single accident. They've just removed the 50% cap and passed a law to speed up the deployment of new nuclear plants. Egypt's got two plants in the works, one completed and one being built as we speak, and the Chinese have announced the construction of 24 new nuclear plants.

I think we've all been brainwashed on this topic.

China's just started building 24 new nuclear plants. The construction on Egypt's second new nuclear plant is also about to start.

Carbon dioxide is not a problem. The planet has seen much higher concentrations of the gas in its past, with no disastrous effects on its plant and animal life.

You're being parochial. Insurance issues don't exist in the countries that have a highly developed nuclear power plant industry, such as France and China, for example, neither of which has ever had a single accident. The French are so confident in their nuclear plant industry that they've just removed the 50% cap they used to have on the amount of the power needs that can be supplied by nuclear plants.

Short of throwing nuclear bombs at one another, there's literally nothing we can do to the planet can come close to the cycles of devastation and cataclysms it's been through due to entirely natural processes. Nature is absolutely merciless to nature.

Apart from a relatively small part of Africa, all of the globe consists of settler colonies. All of the native peoples of North and South America, Australia and New Zealand are the descendants of settler population's, too.

@henryisnotafraid In other words, nothing to do with nuclear power plants.

No she didn't. Go back and listen to what she's saying: that people will rightly NOT accept being monitored and regulated by the government. She's talking about energy use, specifically. You've probably missed it, but in several European countries -- Switzerland, Austria, Germany -- your private energy use is monitored by the government and you can be fined for overconsuming or heating/cooling your home above a certain temperature limit set by the government. Is that what Americans want? Anya's clearly against it.
