  1. The issue is that they won't make the effort to use their heads, to think. "What year was the War of 1812 in" requires no comprehension effort whatsoever.

  4.  @evan8919  I'm a recently retired college prof and I recognized some of my students' lack of mental engagement in these young people. Example: "Which year was the War of 1812 in?" The respondents' failure to simply use their heads to work the answer out represents about 10% of college students today.
