@Perfinn It does actually happen. My father was a medical doctor, and his professor of psychiatry died of head wounds he sustained from a suddenly homicidal inmate he'd known and worked with for a long time, someone who'd never until that day had any violent episodes. He was so trusted by my father's professor that he was allowed to work as one of the gardeners -- the ax he'd been using to cut some wood became his weapon of murder that day. Tragic and utterly unpredictable.

@victorkapustin4071 Not necessarily. It can also be the slight embarrassment of a usually self-effacing person.

I think the transcript got that wrong. The very next thing the cop says in response to whatever it was Sonny/Christopher actually said is "Nine whatsoever." Not something you'd ever say in reaction to hearing that an adolescent's parents don't beat him anymore

It's easier to forgive and to continue to love someone who clearly didn't act out of hatred or malice. As his stepfather put it, he could see that Sonny's body was there but that he wasn't. A terrible tragedy.

@Dahn.Baern. That's not an argument or proof of the supernatural (I say this as a Christian believer).

@PURENT You doth protest too much. A lot of other people in this comment stream have also found the parents' behaviour bizarre and disturbing.

@theskyizblue2day431 Weak, eh? Perhaps the fates will be kind enough to arrange such a test of your strength one day....

@Agent00KK No. Mental illness and demonic possession are two different things, although the latter can and often does mimic the former at least at first glance. I don't believe that this adolescent boy was possessed. Not all evil is supernatural. Plenty of it just plain natural.
