@kmr_tl4509 I don't know what it's like to starve to death, but there must have something in the Chinese culture that already instrumentalized children, so that in times of famine it was less difficult than in some other cultures to break the taboo against letting your children be killed and eaten by a family that similarly let you kill and eat their children. For a contrasting story, I can never forget the example of the Russian agriculture scientists who were in charge of the Soviet seed bank in Leningrad (today's Saint Petersburg). Each one of them chose to die of starvation rather than eat the grains they had access to because those seeds were necessary for the future of the country. I don't believe that after decades of the one-child policy, Chinese parents today would follow the desperate practice of their ancestors.

@sumiterxeroslargosiuscrosi7819 This happened centuries ago, before the US even existed. Cannibalism or the eating of children are as repugnant to modern Chinese culture as they are to the modern English culture.
