It's not that he lacks pragmatism -- no, it's not that which destroyed Syriza as a viable Left-wing party -- but that he lacked the courage to do the pragmatic thing that would have saved the Greek economy. His ideological commitment to the EU made Greece into a German colony for the next 100 years. Varoufakis betrayed Greece for his love of the EU. There's no getting around that.
