  2. What's odd, and doubly odd since you don't even realize it, is that you ever thought sex is something to be sought, that it's a transactional thing. If you don't want to have a close, intimate relationship, then "seeking sex" is bound to lead to disappointment and apathy.

I feel no special respect for Japan, though I like its wonderful cuisine and some of its traditional aesthetic (not the contemporary infantile and infantilizing schlock), but like you, I find the society depicted in this short documentary so alienated and alienating that it's scary. And sad. I have no inclination to even visit Japan.

  12. It's an assumption that they "need" anything of the sort. Note also that the men who have sex with inanimate objects in the shape of women are choosing to do so in order to avoid STDs they could contract from prostitutes. This speaks of a phobia about intimacy that must itself result in emotionally empty marriages. There's definitely something neurotic and decadent in the alienated human relations that characterize the superficially polite and smoothly functioning Japanese society.

  15.  @azuragoddess  Of course not. These men are incels, involuntary celibates, men who for one reason or another, but mostly due to their attitude, can't find a woman who'll have any sort of intimacy with them. There are lots of incels in the West these days.
