Luis Sanchez The US has thousands upon thousands of troops in various European countries (whose populations don't want those American bases and soldiers there), yet we don't call that an invasion.  [Perhaps we should.]  But that's exactly how the Russian soldiers in Ukraine happen to be there: Ukraine and Russia have a military treaty that entitles Russia to post up to 25,000 troops anywhere in Ukraine.  For some reason, our MSM (but also Vice News, apparently) don't want us to know that.

Shutuz Most of the propaganda in the US+EU is dished out by the private MSM -- which, by definition, present the views their owners and advertising corporate clients want the public to have.  Unless you make an effort to follow alternative news outlets in North American, where I Iive, you'll end up believing Russia actually invaded Crimea, for instance -- when, in reality, nothing of the sort ever took place.

  5. Yakav8r55m Really?  Cite me which EU countries have ever held a referendum to ascertain whether their citizens wanted any US bases and troops there.  And please do back that up with a credible source (i.e. NOT the State Department!).

Yakav8r55m I really don't give a fig what the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry says -- the people of Crimea voted in no less than 3 referendi and in each of them overwhelmingly that they didn't want to be part of Ukraine (which they never were until Brezhnev tore Crimea from Russia and "gave" it to Ukraine as if it had been his own private property to do with as he wished).  Now, the errors of the Soviet Era and some of the non-Russian presidents of the Soviet Union are being (finally) corrected, respecting the will of the people in those parts of the world -- not the will of a bunch of neo-Nazis in Kiev and Lvov.

Yakav8r55m Once again, and for the last time: you got it the wrong way round, Yakav.  There has been no Russian invasion of any foreign territory whatsoever since the Prague Spring intervention by the then Soviet Union.  That political entity no longer exists.  What is happening in Ukraine is very straightforward and unambiguous: a fascist coup d'etat, engineered with the help of NATO, took place in Kiev last February.  The inhabitants of Crimea instantly held their THIRD referendum -- overseen by 127 delegates from 26 countries, including members of the European Parliament itself -- and, as in their previous two referendums, voted overwhelminingly for independence from Ukraine, this time adding the request that Crimea be allowed to re-join Russia.  Perfectly legal and legitimate in international law (have a look at the UN Declaration of Human Rights and other pertinent documents).  Donbas and a couple of other regions in the South East of Ukraine also held their referendi, but these were not overseen by foreign observers.  Although every indication we have is that the population voted in a large majority to secede from Ukraine, Kiev refused to accept that act of self-determination -- thus breaking international law.  Instead, it sent armed troops to terrorize the population of what historically used to be Novorossiya, committing atrocities in both Odeassa and Mariupol.  The armed offensive against the residents of Novorossiya has been aided and abetted by NATO and, specifically, by the USA and Germany, both of whom have military personnel on the ground in Ukraine and have sent in military equipment to help Kiev fight the people in the South East of the country who want to exercise their right to political self-determination.  These are the facts about the current situation in that benighted and tragically misled country, mercilessly manipulated by its oligarchic warlords and their foreign allies.  I will not participate in any further discussion with you on this topic since there is no legitimate debate about the facts of a matter.  I don't debate the reality of the Holocaust -- similarly, having stated the facts, I refuse to debate the reality of what's happened in in Ukraine.
