  1. I wouldn't dismiss out of hand the possibility of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in Bakhmut. Zaluzhny spoke on the phone with Lloyd Austen just two days ago, and while we don't have an official statement on the contents of that phone conversation from either Ukraine or the US, it may well be that Zelensky had coerced Zaluzhny into trying to explain to the Americans the rationale behind Ukraine's attempt at a counteroffensive there. Brian Berletic has addressed this possibility in the video he's posted today, in which he points out that even a successful Ukrainian counterattack in Bakhmut will mean nothing and will be quickly reversed as long as the basic conditions that led to the Russian encirclement of Bakhmut are not addressed and remedied. He also explains why Ukraine and its Western sponsors are unable to reverse those basic conditions and offers the analogy with what happened in Aleppo when Western-sponsored jihadists made a temporary breakthrough before being decisively ejected from the city. In short, even if Ukraine manages to pull off a breakthrough in Bakhmut, while this will be touted as a great victory by our media, it will amount to but a flash in the pan.
