  2. Europe caused this with its insane rejection of long-term contracts in favour of spot market prices, an idea pushed by idiots in the UK. Then it compounded the idiocy by putting all sorts of sanctions on Russia for standing up for its security interests and by doing the bidding of the USA, Europe's putative "friend". And if you think these prices are exorbitant, wait and see what happens if/when the EU puts a cap on Russian gas, too, a move they're currently discussing.
