@peterc4082 Living on $2 a day is classified as living in extreme poverty. It's not a world standard of any kind, except the standard of extreme poverty.

I don't know what it means in Bulgaria and Germany, but I understand that neither has the homeless problem we in North America have (Canada as well as the US).

@rattlehead999 I'm in Canada, where, except in small towns, people on a minimum wage are also reduced to sharing apartments and more often rooms with strangers. A bed (not a bedroom, just a bed) in Toronto goes for $1,000 a month!

@peterc4082 Those are outdated figures (a good 10 years out of date) -- no idea why the UN is still quoting them. People living in extreme poverty on another continent has no bearing on people skipping meals on another continent to make ends meet.

@dagda3000 Which responsibilities would those be?

@peterc4082 According to the World Bank and World Vision, too, "648 million people in the world, about eight percent of the global population, live in extreme poverty, which means they subsist on less than US$2.15 per day. This is the current international poverty line (IPL), the World Bank’s most widely reported measure of global poverty that reflects the median of poverty lines in low-income countries (LICs)." That 9% of humanity lives in such dire poverty is irrelevant to the plight of the millions of Germans who're struggling financially and those having to skip meals in order to make ends meet.

Germany's economy has dropped to the 5th place worldwide and 2nd place in Europe. According to the World Bank and the IMF, the Russian economy overtook Germany in 2023.
