The Dependency Theory and Wallerstein's World Systems theory still strike me as fundamentally correct: the combination of the two best accounts for what we're seeing today under the guise of "geopolitics". The USA is blatantly stealing Syria's oil, for example, as it openly stole Iraq's. The whole idea of "a rules-based order" (replacing an order based on international law) also speaks for itself.
