  2. Alexander, can you please comment on Seymour Hersh's latest Substack piece, "General to General", in which he claims that Zaluzhny and Gerasimov are in secret negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine? I suspect that Hersh is being played by his unnamed sources as the article contains a number of bizarre claims, one of which at least is pure fiction, i.e. his reference to a supposed NATO security conference attended by Lavrov in Montenegro earlier this week! (There was no such NATO conference in Montenegro, but for Hersh not to fact check such a detail is sloppy beyond belief. An OSCE meeting has just concluded in Skoplje, North Macedonia, which Lavrov did attend, making sure the Baltics would NOT get to chair OSCE next. Is Hersh being fed obvious misinformation in order to discredit him, and so discredit his version of who blew up North Stream 2?) In any case, according to this article, Gerasimov is allegedly keen to end the SMO because Rissian losses have been disproportionate (?!), and because he's come to the conclusion that Russia can't win in this conflict, something Putin's also supposedly come to accept. Hersh's sources also claim that Putin is ok with Ukraine entering NATO once the conflict is over, provided Ukraine and NATO undertake to place no offensive NATO weapons or NATO troops in Ukraine. I find that shockingly irresponsible of Putin, if true, a guarantee that sooner or later Russia would have to wage war with NATO as a whole. Your perspective would be appreciated.
