  7. They keep dying in huge numbers for a lost cause. Tenacious, without a doubt, but also surprisingly stupid. I mean, I understand real patriotism and respect it, but let's not confuse it with the sheer madness of what Ukrainians are doing. Either madness, or the actions of those forced at gunpoint to keep fighting. And we do have numerous reports from Ukrainian men who've managed to surrender safely of precisely the latter, of Ukrainian Nazi officers shooting in the back anyone who shows the slightest sign of slacking off or wanting to surrender. The faces of the Ukrainian recruits -- all of them well over 45 -- I saw in a recent video reflect despair, anomie, a complete mental switching-off from what's going on around them. Tragic. And I mean absolutely, heart-breakingly tragic.

  9. ​ @neilba1  Silliness won't help. Russia's standing in the world has risen enormously as it's become obvious that Russia, on its own, is strong enough to withstand the combined force of 40+ Western countries AND defeat them on the battlefield. As is happening in this proxy war in Ukraine.

  18. I'm not sure you'd be wrong in those conclusions. Mercouris has been known to interpret statements by EU states in ridiculously optimistic ways. I'll never forget him opining that it may have been Russia itself who'd asked the Germans to defer the certification of NordStream 2 when Germany halted the process back in January 2022. He was simply unwilling to believe that this was the work of Germany itself. Ever since then, I've taken his pronouncements on the Europeans with a fistful of salt.
