  1. Diplomacy usually comes in to hammer out the terms of defeat and surrender for one party. It very rarely ends wars as such. The Russians tried the diplomatic route for 8 long years precisely to avoid this war and, again, at the start of the SMO. Ukraine, pressured by the West, chose war instead of a negotiated peace. These are the consequences of that choice.
