  3. Because he's an embarrassment to them and they'd rather he flee Ukraine. I'm just surprised Lira chose to try leaving via a regular border crossing instead of walking into Hungary at some other point along the border.

  4. ​ @yianpap6093 There were some 4-5 million Ukrainians living and working in Russia before 2014, and they've remained there all along. Some do support Ukrainian nationalists and constitute a guest-worker 5th column inside Russia. I don't see there's anything more to say about that.

  5. Gonzalo Lira isn't a Ukrainian dissident but a foreign national with legal residence permit in the country. To learn how Ukraine treats its dissidents, please consult Mr Lira's videos posted yesterday, in which he gives us a glimpse of that, too. In contrast to the Ukrainians, the Russians haven't arrested any of the Westerners blogging and vlogging from inside Russia. And some of them are quite hostile (not merely critical).
