@stevewilkins5004 Yes, it means borderlands, which is why it used to be known in English as THE Ukraine. Until Lenin chopped off and annexed several regions of Russia to it in order to create a new state out of them (a new Soviet republic, actually), Ukraine was never a country but simply Russia's own westernmost borderlands.

@Max91019 All of eastern and southern Ukraine are Russian lands annexed to Ukraine by Lenin and Stalin. This is a historical fact you can deny till you're blue in the face. The fact remains. This is why there are millions of ethnic Russians in Ukraine: because those are their ancestral homelands, artificially attached to the Kiev regions to create a Ukrainian state at all.
