@maryjeanjones7569 This is just my opinion but I think the cops figured it out pretty quickly. No signs of forced entry, no enemies, no robbery, no assault. The ransom letter was proven to be the mothers handwriting on stationary found in the house. I think they admitted to law enforcement that it was the brother and it was an accident. He was 10 years old at the time. The cops would have HAD to charge the parents with numerous crimes such as tampering with evidence, obstruction etc etc etc. as well as arrest their 10 year old for homicide. I think it was agreed upon to leave it as "unsolved". Maybe there was money involved but I have never seen any convincing evidence of that. The brother, in my mind, definitely did it. I think he had no conception that he was going to kill her. He was upset at her for eating his snack. He got mean with her as children do and he hit her too hard. Parents discovered it and made a bad decision to come up with a cover story.

It was her brother. All the evidence suggests it and he pretty much admitted it in his interviews.

I think the cops figured it out pretty quick but decided to leave it as "unsolved". He was 10 years old. The parents would have to be charged with forging the letter and obstruction of Justice, tampering with evidence etc etc etc. The whole family would have to go to jail and they didn't want to do that. That's just my opinion but it is obvious even to the most casual observer that the brother bashed her skull in.
