I wanted to make a second comment that there is a little town about 30 minutes from where I live and because people are not working at fast food restaurants in this particular little town, this fast food restaurant constantly has one or two girls that have been holding down the fort during the pandemic. And sometimes there's just not enough business for them to be there so they can't come to work. But when they are there they are bombarded with people ordering food. My friend when she and her family go to this particular drive-thru restaurant she tips the girl and maybe someone who works with her $50 because this girl really works her buns off. And she does a good job she's fast she gets the orders correct and she still has a smile on her face so yeah that employee does earn her minimum wage of 14 some dollars an hour and a tip whether you agree or not. And the last time I saw my friend do that that girl broke down and cried she was so happy. So sometimes tipping is a good thing.

I have never worked at a place where people were giving a tip to employees. But here in my state that I live in, minimum wage is paid to all restaurant workers. So figure on 14 dollars just to make it even. So a person being a server or sometimes tips have to be shared with the bus person or the dishwasher, but if it is only the server at a five-star restaurant you can make a lot of money depending on what night it is and how good of a server you are. I have known people to make two $300 at night and a five-star restaurant. No that could have changed being that people get $14 an hour in Seattle Washington which is 2 hours from where I live people get $15 an hour for minimum wage . And that is people who work in those restaurants. Of course Seattle is very very expensive. But in other states like where I used to live in California people who work at a restaurant and were food servers didn't make minimum wage nor did they have to be paid minimum wage they were paid like one or two dollars an hour worked about four or five hours on their shift maybe because it was a five-star Michelin restaurant and they would make $300 at night. But when I go to a restaurant and I have not gone to a sit-down restaurant in 3 years or more I just will not do it because it's expensive for starters and I'm Larry of food handling so I guess a little paranoia. But I go by the service. If the server was attentive and brought coffee or refilled the water or brought salt to the table and was really a high quality worker then yes I will pay more than 15% 20% I will give them a good tip of course depending what the bill is but I always over tip for a great employee. If the server was really crummy and brought cold food then I will not leave a tip. But like someone mentioned, people depend on these tips because maybe in the state that they live in they don't make good money so the tips help and if you're traveling you probably should read up on where you're going and how it all works if you're going to be eating out that's just common sense. But it would be clear and I have seen this at some restaurants where your check at the end of the meal does include the gratuity and that's great too that would be great.
