HTTP/1.1 sets "Connection: keep-alive" as the default. With HTTP/1.0 and prior, with every request the connection was closed after sending the response. You don not want to back to a time when "close" was the default. In any case, ignoring that setting, and closing the connection after sending each response will make matters worse for your users.
