  1. Such land use wasn't pioneered by Chapman. It's been shown rather conclusively that The First Peoples were not only aware of areas where fruit and nut trees grew well, but that such cultivation was generational. I'd be comfortable saying Chapman was clever enough to see the First People's signs of migratory cultivation and used this to his advantage.
