  1. I lived in Quincy for a summer awhile back. It's truly lovely. They have a T station that goes right into Boston, making it very convenient for the summer program I was taking at the Harvard Ukrainian Institute for my Master's Degree. We had a wonderful view of Boston across the Bay, too.

  4. Udvar Hazy is also where the shuttle Discovery is on display. We live close by, and it is an excellent museum! If you are ever in the DC area, you can actually get there via a shuttle bus from the Air and Space museum on the National Mall as well as by driving.

  24. I lived in St Petersburg around the turn of the twenty first. The strangest thing I've ever seen-including the insanity of 2020-was when I was waiting for a bus in Nevskii Prospect. The bus was late. A few minutes later I realized WHY the bus was late. A communist party protest was walking down Nevskii. They were literally protesting the government that, at that point, ALLOWED PROTEST. It Was Bizarre. They Even Had Icon Style Images of Stalin!

  29. 21:00 if you search "seat belt adjuster for adults" you'll see that 'average adult passenger,' like so many things in safety and health, really means "average adult male." Many women aren't safely served by seatbelts unless they are adjusted so that they don't cut into our necks while wearing them.

I think, having met the guy after a panel on created languages at Awesome Con in Washington, DC, and asking him HOW he ended up writing the dictionary (it was an interesting convo) that he might not approve. As a parent, linguist and internationalist by life and education myself, trying to teach a child this way SEEMS interesting, but once you think about it for more than a second or two, it's OBVIOUSLY A BAD IDEA.

  37. The problem with such things is twofold. First, I don't know if any such programs for renting safety seats in the USA, which is typical of our system. Second, the plastics in safety seats degrade over time, and therefore the seats have a legitimate expiration date. It's always printed into the seat somewhere easy to find. The seats are also considered unsafe if they have been involved in any accident. I'm not sure how you would check to make sure this is the case for a rental car seat.

  38. In my personal experience with locks that use keys on both sides,you either kept the key near the door, or you left it inside the lock (which would prevent another key from being used, as it wasn't possible to just shove the key out from the other side)
