  4. My son's boyfriend came out as trans last spring. He's in high school, so even if he ever chooses to medically transition, there isn't much that would be happening now. It makes him no less or more trans, it's just where he is as a person. Respect. 🌈💜

  7. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence for a heavy dose of internalized misogyny in HP, especially when you take the female characters and analyze them outside of the context of the story arc. Even "positive" female characters are pretty wonky when you examine them more objectively.

  13. Approval voting has major drawbacks, just like any other system of voting. The one that seems to be most straightforward while giving the voter more of a voice is ranked choice voting. Just because Adams is an unserious person doesn't mean that he didn't run a good enough campaign to be elected.

Maybe shifting to the right is good for the pocketbooks of a small group, but every time someone says that it makes me less inclined to compromise. It also makes me look harder at leftist thought to see what they are so afraid of over there, and there is some very good material going to waste with the multi decade shift to the right in this country.

  24. All of this is a moot point unless we can break up the duopoly of the Dem/Rep system. We need to overhaul the voting system. I am planning to work towards expanding the use of ranked choice voting in my state. It's a beginning.

The progressive left, as we see with the treatment of AOC and Crockett by the party leaders, has to fight with and nail just to be heard. Next they will arrest more pro-Palestine folks who aren't naturalized or born citizens. If they get away with that, I expect the next group will be immigrants rights advocates. Then, if that works for them, they will start with the occasional white 'sympathizer.' Etc, etc. I hope I'm wrong.

I will NOT be the one to shoot democracy in both feet like many did in November by either voting third party, staying home, or worst of all, protest voting for the magats. If it was as simple as "just vote third party," then many more people would.

  40. 8:38 Get quail instead. They are smaller, quieter, need less space, and their eggs have even more nutrients than chicken eggs by volume. They lay eggs daily like chickens and they are able to be kept in MUCH smaller enclosures happily. It still doesn't prevent bird flu problems, but you can keep them indoors more easily, which could help isolate them from infection.
