  1. I can't tell you how many Russians (when I lived there) complained about how America didn't return Alaska after the 'lease ran out.' Ironic.

  2. And yes, I am and was then quite aware of the story. It wasn't worth trying to explain to them, but they learned in school that was essentially stole it, not that we bought it. There WAS a proposal to lease it, but it was soundly rejected.
