  2.  @TheLIRRFrenchie...  when I lived in Tempe I was a quarter mile away from a freight rail. After I moved I really missed the sound of the trains at night.

  3. This may come as a shock to you, but most people I know prefer to live in and be surrounded by low density development.

  4.  @emallace447  I find those giant boxes appalling. The attempts at mixed use business on the ground floor of them is largely a failure as those business rarely provide any essential services for the people who live in those buildings and don’t pay enough for the people who work at them to live in those buildings. Mostly on these mixed used bottom levels I see for rent signs and the old signs of the businesses that quickly failed in those locations. Also, those boxy buildings are mostly being built poorly with low cost wood frame construction and I don’t expect them to age well. Every time I see another one going up I imagine how easily a fire would quickly devastate one, and feel that I’m probably looking at the future slums of the 2040s.
