i’m going to agree with the locals. i think when it comes to deciding what’s best for your community, it should be the locals making that decision, not some SJW know-it-all living in another state or country. my city was run by folks from another city almost an hour away and they literally screwed our local mom and pop businesses and residents. for example, businesses had to pay an extra $5,000 tax every year just so they could have a stupid parade in downtown. and a lot of folks were forced out of their homes so a new building could be built on a particular location.

those people were protesting because amazon moving in their neighborhood would raise rent prices and cause gentrification. this happens in the bay area. there are a lot more homeless people because of that. so i understand the protestors’ point because i’ve seen it first hand. it’s not like amazon lost anything. they can move to a different location in new york and still be okay.

come to the Bay Area. live in a small town not far from SF and have seen how this can jack up the costs of homes. normal 3-4 bedroom houses were over half a mill. after a major deal kinda like Amazon didnt fall through, home prices dropped to $100k.

yeah. any real estate investor would want this because it would raise the value of their properties. but it’s bad for the renters and homeowners.

they probably know their local laws better than you.

yeah. could turn that poor neighborhood into new real estate opportunity after kicking out the residents.

tj ti it doesnt make the poor richer. we’ve seen this happen with San Francisco and the Bay Area. it just created more homelessness.
