  1. A few months ago, Peter Zeihan and other prognosticators said water would be the next scarce resource — not oil, not food, but water — and here we are. Africa, the ME, and Afghanistan are already fighting over water. China is ignoring its environmental problems. The West is even more focuses on climate change than water management. I live in California, and, while drought has been an issue for decades, I think were more “used to it” than taking it seriously.

  6. Good point. IIRC, China attempted to do something similar, headhunting from Taiwanese semi-conductor companies to form their own Chinese company (but failed). USA might as well do some university recruiting for youngsters who think China’s rattling those sabers too loudly. If we can have HB-1 visas for foreign engineers, might as well restrict them to “national security” technologies.

  7. There‘s an Engineering video of the few dams that do this. However, water can be stored in more than just conventional dams, such as water tables, though they have drawbacks as well.

  8. Nothing like a government to ruin technology. CCP‘s 5G rollout led to electricity blackouts and limited hours for a technology that was once 24/7. USA’s EV subsidies — which you and I paid for — created friction with US allies and led to job layoffs by the very same car companies that received both subsidies and bailouts way back when.
