  1. As I understand it, the printing press prohibited the further evolution of letters (although your “Nine letters lost” explains how printers “lost” a few letters!). And I’m sure block writing and keyboards will remove several cursive letters, like the “z” with its tail. But with even academics (not to mention the Fed) creating new words — namely jargon — we’ll still have our dictionary changing, especially when you don’t want to use the same “awesome” and “radical” words that were so popular decades ago!
