  1. Dunno specifically about Pakistan, but why BRI is “popular” is that the money goes into the pockets of corrupt officials who sell out their country’s economy for the quick bucks. Usually, these countries are not eligible for IMF loans because this corruption. It’s the equivalence (and foolishness) of not qualifying for a bank loan and going for the loan sharks. I should say that Mexico is benefitting from “Chinese investment” but not through BRI. Chinese companies who want business in the USA without the supply chain problems of manufacturing in China are locating their manufacturing to other countries. But this investment is not BRI.
