  1. Congrats for paying it off early! Paying off your debt is the ONLY way to “guarantee” a return on your money. All other investments, other than maybe treasuries, carry more risk. What if your stocks went down while you carried a mortgage? What if you lost your job — but at least paid off your mortgage? The money you didn‘t pay on your interest can be used in investing, even if you’ve lost some advantage in compound interest. Heck, why even buy a home? Plenty of non-financial reasons to, but ask that Warren Buffet guy and search on “hidden costs of owning a home” to know why a home is not as good of an investment as renting and putting money in the market.
