  2. It all started with Obama pivot to Asia Pacific in 2011, 3 years before Xi Jingping came to power. There are 350 US military bases in Japan, Korea, Philippines and Australia. Militarizing the few disputed islands is the least that China should do to protect itself. Pinoy fishermen may complain of not having access to fishing around these islands. But China national security matters most for China. If US can sacrifice 10,000 islanders of a Pacific Island for a nuclear experiment in the 1950s in the name of US national security facing a possible nuclear war against USSR, then why can't China deny these Pinoy fishermen access to nearby disputed islands.
