Some foreign tourists to Japan like to idealise Japan and the Japanese so much and hold them to unrealistic standards. "Trains are never late! Everyone is so great and kind and polite!" they're just positively stereotyping people, instead treating Japanese people as actual human beings who are different from one another. I see a lot of content creators do this, and while I love visiting Japan, overly praising it makes me quite uncomfortable because it's not based on reality.

I always use the Airport Limousine bus from and to the airport while in Tokyo, so I don't have to navigate the trains since I travel heavy with at least 1 large suitcase and 1 carry-on. Another option is sending your luggage to your accommodation with yamato transport, but the Limousine bus is cheaper and it allows you to check in 2 suitcases in their luggage space.

I visited early to mid March this year, and will visit end of February to mid March next year. I just realised your hometown is Kinosaki Onsen, it's in my itinerary for next year! I have pollen allergies so sakura doesn't interest me, I really want to visit during autumn but it's not suitable with my work. Early March is still quite cold, not as cold as Dec-Feb though. I don't mind since I enjoy cooler temperatures. It's also low season, so plane tickets and accomodations are cheap! I also love onsen and prefer bathing during colder temps, and the seafood is also great during/just after winter. Another perks of low season is not as many tourists, which I also prefer.

I solo traveled in Tokyo this year and planned my days around restaurants and bars I wanted to visit, and planned + made reservations accordingly. I also went to the Ghibli Museum and Shibuya Sky. Took a day trip to Kamakura and Yokohama too. Tokyo is perfectly enjoyable on your own, there's so much to see and do!

I've been watching anime, as well as a lot of Japanese dramas and movies since I was young, so I'm familiar with some phrases. I can say simple greetings, I know excuse me and thank you, I can also order stuff from the menu, and ask for directions. I can also say "I don't speak Japanese" when locals spoke/replied to me in Japanese lol because I can't understand longer/more complicated sentences. My pronunciation is decent enough because my native language is Indonesian, we pronounce vowels the same way, so I found that locals understood me just fine. I also simplified my English when asking for help, to make sure the other person understood. I also found that if you speak to locals in Japanese first, most of the time they would be pleased to know that you put in the effort to learn a bit of Japanese as a tourist.

I was solo travelling as a woman in March, and I have a very chronic 'resting bitch face'. None of those people asked me to come to their bars and restaurants, maybe because my face was scary LOL

I've planned a trip for end of February to mid March 2025, so interesting that the places in my itinerary are some of the places you recommended. I start in Fukuoka and planning to take a day trip to Takachiho. I also plan on visiting the three main shrines of Kumano Kodo, but I'm not hiking there since my time is limited and I'm not an avid hiker.
