  1. It's probably in the comments somewhere already, but I find it ironic that in 1945 Charles Kettering was co-founder of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. The bio on the hospital's web site describes him as "inventor of the key-operated ignition switch and anti-knock gasoline." Or more accurately he hired Midgley who invented it, and and they shared the patent. But it makes me wonder if even back then he felt guilty about what he developed.
