  1. the good thing about those walkable island with in is if the people get used to them and see the (direct) benefit to them. they might be willing to make the next step and connect some of those islands to bigger islands. then the chance that those starting point places to become more permanent or with only very reduced traffic. (like one lane one way streets for local use only)
