Imagine how many squid tentacles that, ahem, big 'un, could down in one sitting. If you take her out to dinner your first words to the waitress should be "separate checks, please!"

That's similar to what's happening in China. The one girl said it well: the price of things we don't need is dropping but the price of what we do need is rising. So say Ferraris, mink coats, and diamond necklaces are dropping in price but noodles, eggs, and rice are rising in price. When you average all the prices together it shows deflation. But if I don't buy a Ferrari that falling price does me no good. If I buy eggs then that price is rising and I feel it. Sort of the "bulldozer doesn't fit in my wok" idea you mentioned. It is interesting that when they calculate the official inflation rate they leave off food and fuel...which is where 75% of people's money goes! The reason the US government does it is a lot of social programs like Social Security get cost of living increases based on the official inflation rate. So be underreporting inflation they stiff old people out of millions of dollars. All governments are crooked. Some are just worse than others.

The only way I'd visit China is if I took a trunkload of MREs so I don't spend the whole time on a toilet. Imagine traveling halfway around the world and being unable to leave your hotel room the whole time. And a 15 hour flight back with the runs? No thanks. Besides, I've given up duck intestines for Lent.

And that is why you are grateful every day for what you have because millions of others have even less. @savagebeastking8703

Increasing the price will make demand drop even more.

I think they are thinking that higher prices will give their numbers a bump for a month or two and the CCP will be pleased. Mid to long-term it'll just make people even poorer. One day at a time in China it seems. @lordvader3425

It's strong compared to other currencies. It's the least worst. The best house in a bad neighborhood...on fire. @michaelbizon444

I just avoid them all. Every married man I know is miserable. I'll have some fun with one but I'm not getting into anything permanent. @SarisChannel18

Karl Marx wrote Das Kapital. Adam Smith wrote The Wealth of Nations. Two pretty different economic viewpoints.

Very true. There'll be a bump in spending but very short-term. It seems like China is operating one day at a time. I thought the wise Chinese were supposed to plan 500 years into the future? I guess when you're looking so far into the future it's really easy to fall into an open manhole right now. @Luminousplayer

Geez, what a fossil I am. My phone is the free flip-phone that Verizon gave me. Just like the last free flip-phone they gave me except this one is 4G. Woohoo! @gaoxiaen1
