There is no way I would give my credit card information to Temu. None. Every bit of data any Chinese company collects goes right to the CCP.

The main feature they don't seem to copy is quality.

I believe everyone thinks China is more important than it actually is, a narrative it has been pushing, one of China being "the indispensable nation". It isn't. When China craters it won't have a disastrous effect on the rest of the world. The world moved along quite well before China "opened up" and it will carry on just fine after China closes back down.

No, I think they should stay...well, not exactly Communist, whatever abortion of a system they have...and just close back down and become North Korea 2.0. If they become democratic they'll take over the Earth. They'll be like locusts.

Well Mr. 1000 watt, they wouldn't need an explosive. Do think all of the EVs burning in China had dynamite in them? All you have to do is crack the battery case and POOF! @hendrx

Australia keeps snuggling up to China every chance it gets. When China comes to take you over who are you going to call? You're petting a dragon and that usually doesn't end well.

No, the government will "study" the problem for a few years while billions more dollars go to the Chinese military from Western citizens. @Digmen1

We're scared of how big a hole it's going to make in the ground.

China is predatory by nature. It always has been. Asking China to not be predatory is like asking a tiger not to eat meat.

When you look at the average annual wage of a Chinese vs an American I think you will find the American EVs are more affordable for Americans than Chinese EVs are for a Chinese. @johntang4108

Yes sir. Your EV is already ratting you out and insurance companies are raising rates based on your driving: sudden stops, rapid accelerations, speeding. Plus they record everywhere you drive, how long you are there, etc. That's why governments are pushing them. It's not about "muh envirnment".

As the one Chinese guy said, don't buy an orphan. A lot of companies will drop out and you won't be able to get parts for it in the future plus resale value, which is already abysmal on used EVs, will tank.

A lot of the people who rushed to buy an EV did it for virtue signaling, as in "I'm more environmentally conscious than you". That's one reason some of them go ballistic when you voice even the mildest criticism of EVs: they have a gut-feeling that they got shafted but don't want to be reminded of it. Of course, EVs work well for some people but not others. I suggest we let the buyers buy what they want. @PropanePete

The big whammy is EVs get totalled out for even a minor crash because it may have damaged the batteries. Totalling out $30k-$40k-$50k cars has to lead to higher premiums.

Already happening in Russia.

In China everything is about appearance, not substance.

If you have a working car already I fail to see the economy in spending $20k+ for a new car that saves gas, whether a higher mpg ICE or EV. Calculate how many miles you would have to drive that new car to make up for its purchase price, interest on the loan, license plates, and insurance. A new car is usually a vanity project: you think you'll look good in it and have bragging rights. @komlat253

My rule of thumb has always been that if you have to use your own personal car for a job you will lose money. Even if your company reimburses you for gas there's a lot more expense then that: depreciation (mileage), insurance (based on annual mileage), tires, windshield & headlight chips, coolant & oil in an ICE...I know some people buy a new car to drive for Uber. I'd love to see the numbers on that at the end of the year to see how much money they actually made.

All it's going to take is a few spectacular EV fires like in an apartment or airport parking garage where hundreds of cars burn before governments start restricting where you can park them. EVs may be a good idea but they are not perfected enough for the main market. Maybe in 5 years...or 10. Anyone who buys an EV now is just a Beta tester and paying mightily for the privilege.

Today all of the cars, regardless of brand, look like shoes from the side and it seems most are a dark brown, dark gray, dark green so when you are looking for your car in a large parking lot good luck. @davidpicard5376

No it isn't. Pollution from burning fuel is only one aspect of EV vs ICE. Look at the entire chain of production from the iron ore used in it to the battery, etc. It isn't better for the environment.
