  1. We voted for Tweedledee or Tweedledum just like you do. I don't recall any political grifters, er, candidates saying "vote for me so we can destroy the middle class". The Presidency washed from D to R to D to R. If it was planned to destroy the middle class then both parties were in on it. Remember, never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. Was it all a plan or are all politicians just blithering idiots?

  2. Boomers are not "robbing younger generations" via Social Security. We are getting back the money we paid in for 50 years. The fact that the government mismanaged the fund is not on us. But yes, you are correct that the government was planing on pocketing that money. Did you ever wonder why 65 was chosen as the retirement age? Because back in the 1930s when SS was started the average life expectancy for a man was 65. The government figured that you would pay in your entire life but just when you were ready to draw it out you would die instead. Longer lifespans threw a wrench in the works.

  11. If you are even halfway good with your hands try starting a handyman business. There are a lot of old people and single female homeowners who either can't or don't want to do their house upkeep. Lawn mowing, painting, easy plumbing repairs, putting up fences, pruning trees, etc. Handymen in my area charge $60 an hour. Not bad for a guy with only a pickup truck, toolbox, and lawnmower. If you run into a problem with something watch some YouTube videos about it.

  12. The main thing the Boomers profited off of was the insane rise in real estate prices and that was just dumb luck. Most of us happened to own homes and those homes exploded in value. It's like buying a worthless vacant lot and then discovering oil on it.

  13. When I was very young an old guy told me "as you go through life get every piece of paper you can: diplomas, certifications, licenses, etc. Life throws you curves and having all of that means you can shift into one of the other areas easily."

  14. Amen. Debt is slavery. Paying interest is like putting your money in a heap and burning it. Always live below your means and take 10% of every dollar you make and invest it. Money you invest when young has a lot more effect than when you are older. As soon as you get your first job start planning for retirement. It comes sooner than you think.
