Well, turns out that CDI did it, and they actually did an amazing job. Lol The crane that fell over the building was supposed to do exactly that, because if it was brought down, it was likely to hit the newly refurbished theater across the street. So they wanted to get it layed over the building so that it was stable. They dropped and swung the counterweights onto the building to avoid dropping them through the street and destroying all the underground utilities. The other crane was leaning too far back to lay onto the building, so they swung the counterweight onto the building, and brought it into the street in the best way possible. So under the circumstances, they did a pretty good job. And it sounds like they got it to do exactly what they planned.

@tracym1208 you are welcome! Lol And as further confirmation, I saw a drone video today that showed the pool, fully intact and fully empty, set in place on an undamaged portion of the building.

They are buried under unstable rubble in a building with severe and unknown structural instability. Do you really want to risk other lives to recover bodies?

While you all think of a pool being heavy and liable to cause a collapse, that looks like a fiberglass prefab unit, and you can tell from the picture on the truck that it is very lightweight, because it is only using 2 relatively small rigging straps to lift it. And they would not have it installed and plumbed and filled with water until after the construction was done, so I can safely say that the weight of the pool was inconsequential in the collapse, despite its size and perception of being heavy.

In post collapse drone videos, that pool is sitting safely on an undamaged and stable level on a different portion of the building. Also, you can tell from the 2 thin straps used to rig it that it is not heavy, because it's a fiberglass shell. And it would not have been filled until the construction was complete, and all the plumbing connected etc. But you don't fill the pool while dust and debris is still everywhere.

@thomasturner7721 this apparently was not as thick and strong metal as what you worked with, and probably less support underneath it. Metal does come in different grades and thicknesses after all.
