That's true of Tesla, but there have been some recalls over the years for either faulty pedal senders, or the end of the throttle pedal getting stuck under the edge of the floor mat, but those are rare, and usually it's just driver error!

@vihreelinja4743 lots of people use Teslas in those conditions, you just keep it plugged in over night and it keeps the battery warm, and no damage occurs.

This has happened quite a few times to Tesla, and so far every time the evidence showed that the throttle pedal was depressed instead of the brake pedal, which is a common thing people do, the difference is Tesla has instant acceleration so it can go further before they realize they are pushing the wrong pedal.

The lawsuit will get thrown out once the car data shows that the driver was pushing the accelerator pedal instead of the brake, and it was simply driver error.

@vihreelinja4743 the driver pressing the brake pedal will always stop the car. The brakes are more powerful than the motor. This has happened several times already, and it always turns out that the driver was pressing the throttle pedal instead of the brake pedal.

That's why modern throttle pedals have dual redundant position sensors, so it will be able to be seen if the pedal was physically depressed, because both won't fail at the same time in the same way. And since all control positions, and the commands to the motors etc are all being constantly recorded, it will be easy to identify the truth.

@phareztrinimand the motors are 3 phase AC motors, they won't turn unless the inverter is commanded to put out the correct frequency for the desired speed, and that's all redundantly controlled. It's not like a DC motor where a short circuit to the battery will make it run.

@bkit5 AP and FSD would not accelerate into trash cans and people, and there is no indication it was in use anyway. Plus stepping on the brake would instantly kick AP out, and stop the car even if it was at full throttle. The brakes on Tesla are still old fashioned hydraulic brakes with no way for the computer to prevent the driver from applying them. What you described was most likely on an older car with an actual cable going to the throttle that got stuck? Newer drive by wire cars won't do that unless the pedal is broken, or it gets snagged on something, and it's almost always driver fault not manufacturing defects. And since Tesla uses the same pedal manufacturers as the other big manufacturers, not likely to be the throttle pedal.

@trevorlonewolf6406 do you have a source that you can cite as to what data the Tesla computer records, and that it DOESN'T record such basic data as throttle position, brake pedal position and inverter frequency and amps? It seems like in many previous cases, the guy who said his brakes failed in China, the car that crashed and burned supposedly with no one in the driver's seat, etc, that data was easily accessible.
