  1. As much as I despise Edison and revere Tesla, I have to say that Elon is more like a good Edison than Tesla. Tesla chased the secrets of the universe, and invented amazing new things that others had never even thought of, and many things that we don't understand even to this day. Tesla was a genius at finding new things, but had no interest in making products, beyond the minimum to get people to pay for his toys. Edison was a great promoter. He was able to take the ideas of others, and refine them into a product that would sell. His problem was his ego and greed, and acting like the inventions were his own. Elon takes the ideas of others, both previous generations, and his own team, and works with his team to refine and create a marketable product, but he doesn't try to take the credit for the ideas, just for guiding and encouraging them and creating a good space for them to be efficient and creative. Tesla and SpaceX invent very few new ideas, they mostly existing ideas and products and put them together in a new and better way. For instance, the electric car has been around for a long time, as have touch screen interfaces, battery cells, and all the other little bits that make up a Tesla, but Elon and team were the first to put them together in such a good way. Tesla the man invented most of the stuff required to make it work, which is why it's named after him, but Elon is more like Edison, the refiner and integrator. But without the icky personality lol

  2.  @angelcyning  if Edison had been Elon, he would have hired Tesla and built him a big laboratory in the desert, and funded his research, while finding the ideas to market and refining them. The problem for Tesla was that he was a threat to the ego and profits for powerful people, and they bought into the sunk cost fallacy, and so pulled the rug out from under Tesla, instead of embracing the future. Elon is continuing that vision, and lots of people are trying to shut him down too, but he's got better business sense and funding then Tesla did.
