@TheStormpilgrim I think it's the Shuttle SRBs that were sized to fit through old railroad tunnels, so maybe not THAT ancient, but pretty old lol (there is a myth that train width is based on Roman chariot ruts, but in reality wagons were based on the size of horses, so while you COULD say that a horse's ass was responsible for the Shuttle SRB design, the width of the tunnels has nothing to do with the width of the rails, because trains are a lot wider than the rails.)

@MadMadCommando While they may have made streets in some areas that made it a nicer ride for the General's chariots, wagons were built in many sizes for different uses. You had small one horse wagons, larger 2 horse wagons, stage coaches, and then big heavy wagons for draft horses. And by the time of the British horse drawn train wagon, any Roman influence would have been long gone.
